Miniature decorations for miniature trees or fireplaces, plus a lot of advice for crocheting with embroidery floss. Pattern includes instructions for a magic chain garland, round ornament, pine cone, and 4-, 5-, or 6-pointed star, including a star with one point longer than the rest (tree pattern not included).

These decorations are given in the third and fourth posts of the 2013 miniature decorated Christmas trees post series. The bulk of the 3-page pdf, however, is general advice for working with embroidery floss that could be applied to many other patterns, including working with specialty floss (satin or metallic). The tree pattern is not included; it is my Tabletop Tree pattern.

Contents of pattern: recommended hooks, starting with floss, working with floss, stuffing floss items, finishing stuffed floss items, finishing flat floss items, magic chain, stars, ornament balls, pine cones.

Stitches and techniques assumed: double magic ring, slip knot, chain, slip stitch, single crochet and its decrease or invisible decrease, stitching in back loop only, weaving in ends

Simple stuffed trees are easy to decorate and adapt to any yarn you'd like to use. This pattern is for trees just over 5" tall and 4" across at the widest point.

The post Tabletop Tree appeared first on ReveDreams.com.

This tree is as seen in the 2013 miniature decorated Christmas trees post series, a base crocheted in back loops only with chain-loop branches. This one is not a cone, unlike the trees described in the tutorial, but a shaped base with a more natural look.

Note that if you crochet left-handed, you should make a small adjustment to the pattern instructions: when you add the chain-loop branches, begin at the base of the tree instead of the top. Your hook should still enter the stitch pointing toward the base of the tree, as written.

Provided the bottom is stitched before the sides, there is no sewing in this pattern. It requires about 1.5 oz (43 g) worsted weight yarn, 2/3 of which is for the branches, an F/5 hook (3.75mm), and a small amount of stuffing. It adapts well to other weights of yarn, and I have made trees with the same method using sport weight (class 3) and fine (class 2) yarn, the latter with a D/3 hook (3.25mm).

Stitches and techniques assumed: magic ring, chain, single crochet and its decrease, stitching in back loop only, weaving in ends, slip knot, slip stitch, attaching new yarn with slip stitch.

The snowflakes in this pattern are designed for yarn, though they may be made with thread. In yarn they range from 4" to 5.5" in diameter. Use them as cheerful appliques for a sweater or scarf, or stiffen them with your favorite method from thread crochet to hang as ornaments.

Each snowflake requires less than 1/5 oz (6 g) worsted weight yarn and an F/5 hook (3.75mm). This pattern includes the Quick Easy Snowflake and variation blogged previously, with four additional snowflakes.

Stitches and techniques assumed: magic ring, slip knot, chain, slip stitch, stitching into chain ring, single crochet, chaining out and stitching back along chain, skipping stitches.

If you want to stiffen your snowflakes, I recommend visiting this page on stiffening options.
