The owl’s face is a single round and the body crocheted in a spiral. One-piece wings are crocheted flat and sewn on. The pipe cleaner legs are incorporated during stitching so they can pass through the body without having to be pushed through stuffing; this is explained in the pattern. This pattern requires less than 3/4 oz (20 g) worsted weight yarn, an F/5 hook (3.75mm), one 12″ pipe cleaner, 10mm safety eyes if desired, yarn or thread to embroider facial features, and a small amount of fiberfill.

Stitches and techniques assumed: magic ring, slip knot, chain, single crochet and decrease, half double crochet, double crochet, triple crochet, skipping stitches, slip stitch, sewing up openings, sewing pieces together.
